Mary Josephine "Jo" Smith, 87, of Rockwood, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Ralph; and her mother, Victoria Isham Wilson. Her father, James Wilson, was killed in a 1925 mine explosion on Rockwood Mountain. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Ed, and C.B.; and her only sister, Dorothy Williams.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Michael (Martha) and Tuck (Judy) Smith, all of Rockwood. Grandchildren include Mike Smith and wife Kelly, Maryville, Mikki Smith-Birchfield and husband Jody, Johnson City, Kerrie Smith and friend Pam Robinson, Westel, Andrew Smith, Rockwood, Lacey Smith-Potter and husband Jacob, Rockwood. Survivors also include seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Longtime season-ticket holders and avid Vols football fans, she and her late husband enjoyed travelling in their motor home to local and away University of Tennessee football games. They hosted many tailgate parties for their friends and family to enjoy those special Saturdays.
Funeral service was at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, in Evans Mortuary chapel, Rockwood, with Jerry Meadows officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in Evans Mortuary.
