On Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, Sammy D. Fritts of Ten Mile reached up to take Jesus by the hand and be welcomed into His presence. While he will be sorely missed by his loving family, they stand in praise of Jesus for His saving grace.
He was born July 17, 1936, in Rockwood. He was saved at age 18 while a member at Rockwood First Baptist Church. Preceding his departure, he had been a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ten Mile. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Thomas and Beulah Baird Fritts; his sister, Mary June Fritts; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Fritts.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte; and his children, Denny, Rockwood, Monty and Denise, Kingston, Bonita and Roger Tomlinson, Florida, and Sammy H. and fiancÃ©e Tammy, Ten Mile. His grandchildren are Miranda, Chris, Rebecca, Zachary, Abraham, Monty II, and Justin. He is survived by eight great-grandchildren; his aunt, Jessie Baird; along with many nieces and nephews.
He served in the Tennessee Army National Guard in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He retired after 28 years with Roane Limited.
Funeral service was at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Evans Mortuary chapel, Rockwood, with Pastor Rick Duncan officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Oak Grove Cemetery. The famireceived friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Evans Mortuary.
