Shelia Fay Taylor Cofer

Shelia Fay Taylor Cofer, 59, of Rockwood, passed away and her journey with the Lord came to a crossroads on Monday, March 4, 2013.
Born in Rockwood on Oct. 20, 1953, she was an honor student in both Harriman and Rockwood City schools systems, graduating from Rockwood High School with honors in 1971. She was on the dean's list at Mars Hill College, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. To answer her calling, she served the children of East Tennessee for more than 30 years as a social worker. For many years, she was an appointed member of the Roane County Foster Care Review Board and the Morgan County Child Abuse Review Team. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she served as a deacon and elder.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Howard and Wilma Taylor; brother, Jerry Taylor; godmother, Lucille Litton; in-laws, James and Grace Cofer, Larry Cofer and Scott Cofer; beloved grandparents, aunts and uncles too numerous to mention.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Alvin Cofer; daughter, Alia Cofer; grandson, Zayvias Cofer; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ann Taylor; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Taylor, Sharon Cofer and Mary Kate Cofer; nieces, Michelle Taylor, Tammy Taylor (Kevin), Pam Simpson (John), Joy Belle Burrows (Bill) and Kristy Taylor (Willie); nephew, Chris Taylor; great-nieces, Caitlin, Caroline and Carleigh Taylor, Shelly and Denise Todd, Lexie Taylor and Lacey Williams (Jasper); great-nephews, Cody Simpson and Zachary Taylor; and great-great-niece, Paislie Ann Todd.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in Rockwood First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 328 W. Rockwood St. During funeral visitation, everyone is invited to the church fellowship hall for refreshments. Funeral service will be at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Kara Foster, officiating. Concluding services and burial will be at noon Friday, March 8, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood. The family will meet friends at the cemetery for the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the children's and youth programs or the Mother's Day Out preschool program at Rockwood First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), P.O. Box 45, Rockwood, TN 37854. Evans Mortuary, Rockwood is in charge of arrangements.
