Thomas Monroe Barnes of Harriman, born June 23, 1942, was honorably discharged from this life on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013.
During his life, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, 4th Armored Division. He was honorably discharged Dec. 17, 1963. Born into the Lord's army March 7, 1982, he was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Spring City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessee Lincoln Monroe Barnes and Willie Viola Barnes; brother, William Barnes; and son, Ronald Thomas Barnes.
Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Margaret Barnes; his children, Sandy Barnes, Greg Purkey (Jennifer), Pam Jones, Tommy Barnes (Stacy) and Shawn Barnes (Jennifer). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His siblings are Dave Barnes (Marian), Ken Barnes (Glenda), Mary Ellis (Allen) and Willie Mae Jefferson. He is also loved by an abundance of nieces, nephews and special friends.
The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, in Davis Funeral Home, Harriman. The funeral service was in Friendship Baptist Church on Toe String Road, Spring City, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, with Pastor Mark Ward and Bro. Donnie Harvey officiating. Graveside services followed at Roane Memorial Gardens.
