Benjamin Tyler 'Ben' Aytes, 27, of Harriman, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017, at Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville, from complications of an extended illness of diabetes.
He was born Jan. 4, 1990, in Fort Ord, Calif. Ben was well traveled and had lived in many places during his life, including Savannah, Ga., which was his favorite. He was a 2008 graduate of Roane County High School, Kingston, and attended Roane State Community College. Ben was a Christian and loved the Lord. He loved others first and was a gift giver, even going without to give you what you needed. Basketball was his passion and Kobe was his favorite player. He loved Diet Dr. Pepper's, music and reading, especially science fiction books. The light of his life was his niece, Addison; and he loved being with his family, especially his mother. Ben was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Reba Kay Aytes; and Ernestine Massey; and uncle, John Massey.
Survivors include parents, Stanley and Linda Aytes, Harriman; brother, Adam Aytes, Kingston; niece, Addison Aytes, Kingston; grandfather, Raymond Massey, Rockwood; special cousin who was raised as a brother, Lee Nance, Knoxville; special cousin whom he mentored, Deacon Potter, Knoxville; dearest friend, Meagan Linley, Kingston; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13, from the chapel of Evans Mortuary. Private family interment will be held at a later date. An online register is available at
