Billie Simmons Buffington-Martin, 93, flew away peacefully to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.
She was a member of Praise Temple in Maryville. A former resident of Solway, Oak Ridge and Kingston, she and her late husband, Bill Buffington, owned Solway Open Air Market, along with several businesses in the Solway community. She received her nursing training during World War II and worked at Oak Ridge Hospital and Westmall until the early 1970s, and later with the Roane County Public Health Department until her retirement in 1978.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Bill Buffington and Sam Martin; daughter, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Smith; granddaughter, Dana Bagwell; parents, Clay Simmons and Addie Simmons Hill; and other family members.
She is survived by daughter, Elayne Buffington Wood (Jack), Sevierville; granddaughters, Ronica Tilley (Derrick), Farragut, and Terri Dykes (Tony Mainelli), Washington, D.C.; grandsons, Don Bagwell (Denise), Augusta, Ga., and Bobby Inman (Laura), England; great-grandchildren, Macy, Madelyn, and Maverick Tilley, Jade Wickenden and Ellie Inman, Michael, Addison, Adam, Chloe, Kaelin and Colin Bagwell, and Marly Mainelli; seven great-great-grandchildren; many family and friends.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens at Edgemoor Road, Claxton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to East Tennessee Children's Hospital, 2018 W. Clinch Ave., Knoxville TN 37916. Woodhaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 160 Edgemoor Road, Powell, 945-3461, is in charge of arrangements.
