Charles Connon Littlefield, 89, of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at his home.
He was an MIT graduate with a B.S. degree in chemical engineering. He worked at Cornell University before being brought to Oak Ridge during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project, serving at Union Carbide's K-25, where he met and married Ophelia McCord. He retired in 1984. An avid photographer, nature lover, horticulturist, pilot, scholar and beloved grandpa "Boppa," he served as exalted ruler of the Elkes Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen Littlefield; his wife, Ophelia McCord Littlefield; a brother, Parker Littlefield; and a special friend, Robert Bobby Parker.
Survivors include a sister, Priscilla Laura Littlefield, Cape Cod, Mass.; a daughter, Connie Littlefield Lewis and husband Nick, Seattle; son, Daniel Connon Littlefield and wife Lillian, Shelby, N.C., grandchild Jason Connon Littlefield, great-grandchild Cayden Lane Littlefield and stepgrandchildren U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Goebel and Geoffery Goebel; son, Thomas Ralph Littlefield, MD, and wife Sarah, Kingston, grandchildren Emma McCord Littlefield and Connon James Littlefield; and special friends, Ralph Deaderick, Renee Crowe, Roy Clark, Rachel Parker and friends at Foust Family Fitness.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in Kyker Funeral Home chapel, Kingston. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday in Kyker Funeral Home. www.kykerfuneralhomes.com.
