Dorothy Marie Taylor Hood, 88, of Knoxville, formerly of Harriman, passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 21, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Donna Phillips, where she also resided.

On Feb. 22, 1925, she was born in Rockwood. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the daughter of Cordie and James Taylor and stepdaughter of Harry Daniel, all of Rockwood. In 1943, she graduated from Rockwood High School, married Howard Samuel Hood and raised their three children in Harriman. In the 1980s, they moved to McMinnville and were active in First Baptist Church, especially the drama and senior groups. She was also a member of the Garden Club ,where she won awards for her beautiful flower gardens and her flower arrangements. She was an active volunteer at the senior citizens center. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, as attested to by her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Hood; son, Gary Hood; and brothers, James, Ivan and George Taylor.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Joe Morgan, Cookeville, and Donna and Stuart Phillips, Knoxville; grandchildren, Shawn Morgan (Tammy), Dr. Tim Morgan (Angie) and Garrett Phillips; great-grandchildren, Seth, Jillian and Tucker Morgan, Megan, Brandon and Mikala James; many nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Roane Memorial Gardens, Rockwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an animal
