Fred J. Hooper, M.D., 89, of Knoxville, departed this life on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in Tennova Hospice Center, Knoxville.

He was born in Rockwood and attended Oliver Springs High School. He graduated University of Tennessee Medical School in 1947. He practiced medicine in Harriman, and he was the chief physician, Eastern Area for TVA, until retirement.
He was active in Harriman First Presbyterian Church from the 1950s-70s.
Thanks to the Rev. Clay Harrington of Knoxville, during his illness he found his faith and committed his life to the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Goddard Hooper; and his parents, Annie K. and Fred H. Hooper.
He is survived by his son, Scott C. Hooper and daughter-in-law Donna Hooper, Nashville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Sharp Funeral Home chapel, Oliver Springs, with the Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service. The burial will follow the service at Oliver Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations may be made to
