Henry Thomas Wright, or "Bud," as he was affectionately called by all who loved him, was born Jan. 5, 1931.
He departed this life to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, in Ben Atchley Veterans Home, Knoxville.
He was a man who enjoyed being around people, and he never met a stranger. He graduated from Campbell High School in Rockwood. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army; he served during the Korean War, where he received a Purple Heart for his heroism and an honorable discharge. He was employed for 40-plus years with the Tennessee Valley Authority as a janitor and boilermaker. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas W. Wright; mother, Lillie G. Wright; brother, Charles "Pee Wee: Wright; and sister, Lysola Parks.
He leaves to cherish his memories a dedicated and loving wife, Mary A. Wright; son, Thomas J. Wright and Tracy Denkins, Knoxville; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Gale Wells, Flint, Mich., Janet Jones (Richard), Oak Ridge, Janice D. Miller and Scotty Christian, Evansville, Ind., Cynthia D. Wright, Rockwood, Teneke Thompson (Emanuel), Copperas Cove, Texas, Jennifer Lankford (Leo), Knoxville, and Robin Wadley, Rockwood; sons-in-law, Anthony Miller, Oak Ridge, and William Springs, Springfield, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, Darryl and Jalen Miller, Amanda and Tevin Springs, Emmanuel, Laquisha and Emma Thompson, Zackery and Thomas Wright, Ashton, Kierstin and Avery Lankford, Rodney Wells, Arianna Crawford and Damarius Anderson; one great-granddaughter, Kingsley B. Springs; brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy Wright (Kate), Indianapolis, Johnny (Marilyn), Aurora, Colo., and Gloria Lee Wright, Rockwood; sisters, Anita Golden, Wilma Howard, Jean Sangster, Rock Island, Ill., Thomas Hardy (Brenda), Loudon, Shirley Martin (Carl), Kingston, Waltrine Hardy, Rockwood, and Sharon Flemings, Knoxville; a host of special nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Mortuary with the Rev. Beatrice Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood.
