Retired U.S. Navy HTC J.B. Dayton, 63, of Goose Creek, S.C., formerly of Harriman, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013.

He was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Harriman, son of the late Wilbur and Ollie Osborne Dayton. He was a graduate of South Harriman High School, a retired shipfitter at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and a Korean and Vietnam veteran. He was also a past post commander of Post 166 of the American Legion in Goose Creek, The Forty & Eight Voiture 1067 Past chef de gare; AFM 401; VFW; FRA 263 and he was a tin-can sailor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudette Boyce Dayton.
He is survived by his two sons, Gary Dayton and Barry Dayton, both of Goose Creek; and his brother, William Dayton, Harriman.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in American Legion Post 166, 116 Howe Hall Road, Goose Creek. Inurnment will be at Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date. J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Northwoods Chapel, Charleston, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.
