Jessie Alberta Lane Wright, 84, of Kingston, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, in Tennova Residential Hospice in Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Wright; parents, Rufus H. Lane and Mattie Johnston Lane; sisters, Clyde Young and Fayola Hartley; and brothers, Thomas H. Lane and Jim Lane.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Becky and Billy Long, Leesville, S.C., and Debby and Skip Williams, Kingston; son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Cindy Wright, Kingston; grandchildren, John Matthew Wright and Sarah Caroline Wright, Kingston; sister, Ernestine Mitchell, Kingston; and special friends, Emily McDonald and Polk Brown.
She was a graduate of Roane County High School and Tennessee Technological University. She retired after teaching for 37 years within the Roane County and Harriman City School systems. Those schools included being a teaching principal at Edgewood Elementary School and teaching at Harriman Occupational High School.
Organizations in which she was involved included being a 67-year member of Laurel Chapter 22 Order of the Eastern Star, Roane County Retired Teachers Association, Tennessee Education Association, National Education Association, Avery Trace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an auxiliary member of the Gideons.
She was a lifetime member of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed positions as choir leader, music director, Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school director. She also held various other positions within the church during her lifetime.
Christian music was an influential part of her life. She traveled throughout the Eastern United States for 20 years with the Wright Family Gospel Singers, ministering through music in churches and concerts. She continued to enthusiastically support Christian music locally throughout the rest of her life.
The family will receive friends from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston. Funeral will begin at 3 p.m. in the Kyker chapel, with the Rev. Kenny Rains, Jr. and the Rev. Mason Goodman officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Bradbury United Methodist Church Cemetery on Buttermilk Road. Pallbearers will be Rusty Wright, Matthew Wright, Skip Williams, Mark Melton, Bob Moore and Doug Cook. Honorary pallbearers include Billy Long and Bob Snow.
