Lerry Thompson, age 57, a resident of Rockwood, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville. He was born November 21, 1954, in Rockwood to Raymond Edward "Jo Buggy" Thompson and Margaret Lee Abels Thompson. Lerry was a member of the North Rockwood Baptist Church and former long standing member of the Eagle Furnace Baptist Church, both in Rockwood. He was also a member of David Holloway Knights of Pythias Lodge # 174 in Kingston, Tennessee. Lerry was a retired carpenter with U.S. Department of Energy Y-12 plant with 27 years of service and was a former member of the Carpenters Union. He also coached youth basketball, baseball, and softball for several years. Lerry loved his family very much and enjoyed fishing, skiing, and Tennessee athletics. Lerry also continued to give life and improved the lives of others by being an organ and tissue donor. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by father-in-law, Billy Wayne Fickey; and brother-in-law, Michael Wayne Fickey.

Survivors include, wife, Patty Thompson, Rockwood; mother, Margaret Lee Thompson, Rockwood; children, Larry Allan Thompson and wife Candy of Rockwood, Tracy Thompson of Rockwood and Matthew Thompson of Rockwood; grandchildren, Tre' Thompson of Rockwood, Savana Flanagan (Thompson) of Rockwood; twin brother, Terry "Rocky" Thompson and wife Deborah of Rockwood; sister, Phyllis Bryant and husband Steve of Rockwood; brother, Dennis "Dude" Thompson and wife Nancy of Knoxville; special loved ones, Mike and Tonya Burgess of Westel, Tim and Rhonda Boyd of Westel, Mike and Shirley Burnette of Rockwood, Dennis and Teresa Youngblood of Rockwood; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Evans Mortuary. Funeral services followed at 8 p.m. from the chapel of Evans Mortuary with Bro. David Treadway, Bro. Doyle Bowen, and Bro. Ben Whittenbarger officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorder Center, Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, 5455 Meridian Mark Road, Suite 400, Atlanta, GA. 30342, in honor of Alana Prather.
