Margaret Lee Abels Thompson, 82, of Rockwood, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Roane Medical Center, Harriman.

She was born June 28, 1930, in Roane County to Robert Franklin Abels and Nancy Mae Hixon Abels. She was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Rockwood and was retired from the Roane County school system, where she was employed in the dietary department at Rockwood High School. She had also previously worked in the cafeteria at the former Chamberlain Memorial Hospital in Rockwood for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. "Jo Buggy" Thompson; son, Lerry "Chunky" Thompson; brothers and sisters, Howard Abels, Ada Boles-Newman, Marvin "Tank" Abels, Carl Abels, Allen "Boots Abels and Kenneth Abels.
Survivors include children, Phyllis Bryant and husband Steve, Rockwood, Dennis "Dude" Thompson and wife Nancy, Knoxville, and Terry "Rocky" Thompson and wife Deborah, Rockwood; daughter-in-law, Patty Thompson, Rockwood; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Bobbie Harvey, Valdosta, Ga.; special niece, Bobbie Jean Harrison, Dayton; host of other nieces and nephews; and special little friend, Rylan Davidson, Rockwood.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Funeral services followed at 8 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Evans Mortuary. Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood. Memorial contributions may be made to either Gateway Baptist Church or the
