Beloved mother and sister, Oveta Lynn Ray Ross, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, following a prolonged struggle with emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Born on April 29, 1953, she was 59 years old, the daughter of Amos and Charlene Ray of Harriman, who preceded her in death, along with a brother, Martin Lavern Ray. She is survived by her son, Robert Jason Ross; her brothers, Rogers Lee Ray, Gallatin, Ronnie Dean Ray, Cookeville, Lennis Hugh Ray, Nashville; and a sister, Randell Lavigne, Las Vegas.
Oveta worked extensively in Pennsylvania and Tennessee as an LPN for many years. She received a degree as an Associate of Applied Science from Roane State Community College's Nursing Program in 1993, and became a registered nurse in that same year. With more than 30 years in nursing, she comforted and help to heal thousands in Rockwood, Harriman and eastern Tennessee communities. She worked for many years at Roane Medical Center in Harriman as an emergency room nurse, critical and intensive care nurse and as administrative night nurse supervisor, as well as a home health nurse with various facilities in Roane, Loudon and Monroe counties. She is remembered as a devoted and dedicated member of the medical community and a deeply compassionate and loving person. She will be profoundly missed by her friends and family and all who knew her.
A memorial graveside service will be held in her honor at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood.
