Vivian Minteer, born Vivian Kindred in Rockwood on June 27, 1928, to Albert J. Kindred and Catherine Millican Kindred, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, in the Naval Medical Center, San Diego.
Growing up in Rockwood, she had five brothers and three sisters: Kenneth, Clifford, Ralph, James, Coralou "Lou", Teddy, Mary and Kathy. Everyone's favorite day was Sunday, when they all walked about a mile and a half to Mount Vernon Country Church, with her carrying her brother Teddy all the way. On their journey home, they all stopped by Golliher's Grocery for a 5-cent grape pop. Her lifelong friends, Novalle Nealon and Bonnie Nelson, would often join them on this day.
She attended Moulders School, a one-room schoolhouse for grades 1-8 and later attended Rockwood High, receiving the first high school diploma in the family. She then travelled to Knoxville to continue her education.
After her schooling, she moved to St. Louis, where she met and married her husband of 46 years, Glenn L. Minteer. The couple moved to San Diego in 1967 and lived out the rest of their lives together.
She was mother to Glenn L. Minteer Jr.; step-mother to Judy Musacchia; mother-in-law to Ellen Minteer and Clayton Musacchia; grandmother to Steven, Nathan and Natalie Minteer, as well as Chad and Melanie Cassie; and great-grandmother to Grace, Olivia and Harper Cassie.
She was a beautiful, loving and giving person and a loyal friend to all who knew her. Always vibrant and full of spirit, she had love for everyone and life itself. She would always want to give you a hug, even if she didn't know you.
Her funeral will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Miramar National Cemetery at 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122. There will be a reception following in Our Mother of Confidence Church at 3131 Governor Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.
