Linda Dodson McElroy, 95, lifelong resident of the Black Hollow community of Rockwood and a charter member of North Rockwood Baptist Church, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Thursday, April 3, 2014.
Surrounded by family, she passed peacefully at the home she had lived in since age 13. Mrs. McElroy will be remembered for her love of quilting, wildlife (especially in Cades Cove) and her daily road trip, but mostly for her steadfast and unshakable faith in Jesus Christ. Mrs. McElroy was born July 29, 1918, to parents James Dodson and Becky Watson Dodson. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lloyd "Pop" Dodson; and sister, Sarah Wicks.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Joe Griffin, Rockwood; granddaughter, Sherry and husband Steven Laughlin, Rockwood; great-grandsons, Bryce and Zane Laughlin, Rockwood; special niece, Betty Kirkland, Rockwood; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 7, in Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. Funeral service followed at 8 p.m. in the chapel, with Bro. Ben Whittenbarger officiating. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood.
