Rolland Edward ‘Hoot' Gibson
Rolland Edward "Hoot" Gibson, 68, a resident of Rockwood, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at his residence.
He was born March 9, 1946, in Rockwood to Arnold Franklin Gibson and Ella Katherine Whittier Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Rockwood and was also a member and past master of Rockwood Masonic Lodge 403 F&AM. He was a retired journeyman lineman, working with various utilities since his career began in 1973, including Rockwood Electric Utility, city of Cookeville and Florida Power and Lights. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 760 for over 30 years. "Hoot" had previously coached Dixie Youth baseball and girls softball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Sexton Gaylardo and Ola Gibson Rowley; and brothers, Jack J. Gibson and Lester Gibson.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Beverly Kay Duncan Gibson, Rockwood; children, Sean Michael Gibson, Rockwood, and Cheryl Gibson Walden and husband Bill, Philadelphia; grandchildren, Tressa Gibson, Makara Gibson, Shayla Gibson Shipwash and husband Jake, Corey Shelton, Courtney Shelton and Kelsie Walden; great-grandchildren, Keyara, MacKenzie, Landyn, Karissa, Lillyana and MaKilee; brothers, Willard Gibson, Lake City, Fla., Dennis Gibson and wife Patty, Rockwood, and Tommy Gibson, Illinois; sisters, Jacqueline Myers, Missouri, and Etta Proffitt and husband Kelly, Rockwood; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Masonic services will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Memorial services will immediately follow from the chapel of Evans Mortuary, with Dr. Clarence Sexton and Bill Walden officiating.
