Alvin T. Smith Sr., 72, of Rockwood, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 16, 2014.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a former deputy sheriff with the Roane County Sheriff's Office. He was a loving father and grandfather. Alvin loved to play golf and, as his family noted, possessed a "great sense of humor." Mr. Smith was preceded in death by parents, Anderson and Nettie Smith; wife (mother of his children), Lesi P. Smith; second wife, Patsy Smith; brothers, Wayne Smith and Winston Smith; sisters, Barbara Harmon and Thelma Lott; and grandson, Coty J. Laulusa.
He is survived by sons, James "Kimo" Leao (Lisa Rice), Kingsport, Pitoni Smith, Kingston, and Alvin Smith Jr., Kingston; daughters, Lisa A. Padgett (Edwin), Spring City, Tina L. Wallace (Christopher), Sweetwater, and Tracey Chasm (Joshua), Crossville; stepson, Joey Nephler, Rockwood; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Luther Smith (Lynette), Kingston, and Freeman Smith (Gwen), Kingston; sisters, Rosie Hillman (Chuck), Kingston, and Yvonne Jeffers (George), Kingston; several nieces and nephews, along with many friends in the Roane County area; and special dog friend, Penny.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Full military honors will be performed by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard. Private family interment will be at a later date.
