Jimmy Russell Sutton, 69, of Rockwood, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at his residence.

He was the son of Jake and Mammie Sutton. He retired from TVA Kingston Fossil Plant as third-shift foreman in 1999. He was a lifetime member of the Rockwood Post 50 American Legion and served as commander and adjutant. He was also a member of the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard, of which he was a past commander. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Ann.
Survivors include his wife, Dian Sutton; daughter, Michelle Rowland and husband Rob, Seabrook, Texas; son, Jimmy Sutton and wife Suzi, Wartburg; brother, Award Vick Sutton and wife Gloria, Rockwood; sister, May Ingram, Rockwood; brothers-in-law, David Rutherford and wife Linda and George Rutherford, all of Bean Station, and Johnnie Rutherford and wife Bambi, Keno, Ky.; grandchildren, Ryan Rowland and Victoria Harrison of Rockwood, Morgan and Rusty Rowland, Mavry Sutton and Madison and Chip Merick of Seabrook; great-granddaughter, Kaelyn Merick; several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in Mount Vernal Independent Baptist Church in the Mount Vernal community, with the Rev. Mike Nelson, the Rev. Wayne Nelson and the Rev. Charles Webb officiating. Burial was at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery on Smith Mountain Road in Cumberland County.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to either the Rockwood American Legion Auxiliary Veterans Emergency Fund or the Roane Memorial Military Honor Guard.
