Cecil Novell Proffitt Jr. expired in Select Specialty Hospital at Fort Sanders at 12:44 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012.
He was a resident of Vonore. He was a graduate of Rockwood High School, class of 1964. He was a distinguished alumni of Hiwassee College, class of 1966, UT Agriculture in Knoxville, class of 1968. He taught school in Sparta. He was one of the founders of the Little League Program in Madisonville. He was the owner of Greenback Country Meats until 1980 and Reality Executives Tri-Star's until 2010. He worked in banking; at Hicks Country Meats; Sweetwater Stock Yard; Elm Hill Meats; food sales; and recently he was a real estate broker. He served on the board for Habitat of Humanity and supported the community in other programs. He joined Rockwood Methodist Church as a youth and Woodmen of the World. He served in the National Guard at Rockwood.
He was preceded in death by son, Sam; father, Cecil Novell Proffitt Sr.; and mother, Betty Jean Roberts Proffitt.
He is survived by wife, Nancy; daughter Sara and husband Michael Duncan, Sweetwater; son, Paul, Madisonville; sister, Susie and husband Danny Jones and niece Christy and husband Andy White, all of Batesville, Miss.; nephew, Brian and wife Theresa Jones, Memphis; one other nephew and other nieces.
Funeral was at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Biereley-Hale Funeral Home chapel, Madisonville. Family and friends assembled at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood for burial. Family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
