Oliver W. "Bill" Butler, 64, of Rockwood, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, in University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville.

He was born May 7, 1948, to T.C. and Ann Hucks Butler. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a heavy-equipment operator in an engineering brigade.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Hucks Puckhaber; stepmother, Anna Mae Butler; and father, T.C. Butler.
He is survived by brothers, Jimmy A. Butler, South Carolina, Martin L. Puckhaber, Wisconsin, Alan N. Puckhaber, Illinois, and Eugene Z. Puckhaber, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed camping, playing the guitar, and watching lovingly over his dogs, which included a stray taken in less than a year ago. He also had a special place in his heart for children of all ages.
Funeral service and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at East Tennessee Veterans National Cemetery, John Sevier Hwy., Knoxville, with full military honors by the East Tennessee Military Honor Guard. The family requests memorial donations made to local shelters benefitting families in need. Evans Mortuary, Rockwood, is in charge of arrangements.
