Floyd R. Bowers, 86, Rockwood, went peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.

He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Rockwood to Charles and Susie Barnes Bowers. He was a 55-year member of Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church in Rockwood. He was a retired Command Sgt. Major with the Tennessee National Guard and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Rockwood American Legion and the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard. He retired from Fortafil Fibers where he worked as an electrician.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Bowers.
Survivors include daughter, Brenda Boles and husband, the Rev. G.W., Powell; son, Tommy Bowers and wife, Joyce, Rockwood; daughter, Susan Patterson and husband, Claude, Morristown; grandchildren, Bo Boles and wife, Heather, Angie Cox and husband, Justin, Christie Carr and husband, Chris, Heather Raffield and husband, Jeffrey, Kayla Bowers, Dustin and B.J. Patterson; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Jeb Cox, Chelsea Buchannon, Daylan Patterson, J.T. Raffield, Garrett and Bryson Boles, Keyera and Zaylan Bowers; brother, Kenneth Bowers, Michigan; and sister, Ruth Clark, Michigan.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Funeral service will follow in the chapel of Evans Mortuary at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Knox Wimberly officiating. The graveside service and interment will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood.
