Alvin Barry Cash, 59, of Claxton, passed away suddenly Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.

He graduated from Roane County High School. He went on to attend Roane State Community College and graduated with an associate's degree in fire science. He was among the first emergency medical technicians in the state of Tennessee, working in both Roane and Anderson counties ambulance services and was awarded the youngest-ever honorary Tennessee Colonel. In 1974, he started work at ORNL and worked until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mary Sexton Cash; and three of his cherished pets, Sophie, Lola and Cagney.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Kay Harmon Cash; brothers, Martin Cash and wife Diana, and Michael Cash and wife Pam; nephews, Martin Cash Jr., and Michael Cash and Jr. and wife Becky; nieces, Stephanie Cash Puckett and husband Michael, and Whitney Bagwell and husband Anthony; several great-nephews, great-nieces and other family members; and cherished pet, Lacy.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton. Funeral service will follow, with Pastor Rod Garrett officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, Oak Ridge. www.holleygamblefh.com
