On Monday, July 1, 2013, almighty God called His faithful servant Barbara Jean Driggins Easley from labor to rest. She was born on March 4, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband and sweetheart, whom she married February 2, 1954, Alphonza Easley Sr.; her parents; two sisters; and two brothers. She attended Roanoke City Public Schools where she graduated from Lucy Addison High School, Class of 1952. Barbara was a dedicated and faithful member of Ebenezer AME Church. She served on the Missionary Board, The Senior Choir, The Gospel Choir, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Stewardess Board, member of the Steward Board, member of the Pastor's Aid, member of the Lay Organization and the Willing Workers. She was a leader in ministering to the young people on Sunday mornings during worship service.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory four devoted sons and a daughter, Alphonza Easley Jr., of Roanoke, Tony Bernard Easley (Myra), of Alabama, Wendell Lewis Easley, of Roanoke, Garrett Curtis Easley, of Roanoke, and loving daughter, Roxie Karen Easley, of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Irvin Childress; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Easley and Bob and Claire Turner; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at noon on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Ebenezer AME Church, 1563 Lafayette Boulevard, NW, Roanoke with the Reverend Jeanette Phelps as eulogist. Entombment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
