Bennie Franklin Rolen, 86, of Ripplemead, departed this life Tuesday evening, September 3, 2013, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg after a long illness. Born in Saltville, Va., on November 15, 1926, he was a son of the late Rev. William "Bill" and Josie Wise Rolen. Bennie was retired from the National Gypsum Company and A P Green Lime Company, Kimballton Plant after many years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jeep, Mike, David, and Olaf; and his sisters Virginia, Janice and Pearl.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved and devoted wife, "Peggy" Dorothy Marie Price Rolen; his daughters, Gloria Jean Hale, of Christiansburg, and Brenda Darlene Rolen Williams, of Harrisonburg; his grandchildren, Travis Scott Williams and Jerry Ryan Hale; his great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Jude, and Jonah Williams; his sisters, Ernestine Davidson, of Connersvillle, Ind., Novella Allison, of Glade Springs, and Elizabeth Starling, of Glen Burnie, Md.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013, in Mt. Rose Cemetery in Glade Springs, Va. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke on Friday evening, September 6, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m.
The family is most grateful for the help and care for Bennie from the staff at Carilion Giles Community Hospital, the Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Dr. Robert Devereaux, Carilion Hospice, Betty Surbaugh, Elma Lee Baker, Aubrey and Joann Williams and precious neighbors and friends.
