Edgar Thomas Holdren Jr., 78, of Roanoke, died on Monday, April 8, 2013. Edgar was born on August 16, 1934, to the late Edgar Thomas Holdren Sr. and Willie Stanley Holdren. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from Kroger after many years of service. He was a deacon at Belmont Baptist Church where he faithfully served many years and worked weekly in the food pantry. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard D. and Calvin R. Holdren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Murphy Holdren; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Charles Hunter; son and daughter-in-law, Edgar and Rhonda Holdren; and daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Randy Peregoy; five grandchildren, Clinton Peregoy, Clayton Peregoy, Cody Peregoy, Sierra Holdren and Emily Holdren; two brothers, Harold Holdren and wife, Joyce, R. Morris Holdren and wife, Ella; two sisters, Louise H. Walters and husband, Gene, Shirley J. Holdren; sister-in-law, Joyce Holdren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Belmont Baptist Church. Pastors Bob Heatherington, David Burgess and John Fox will officiate, and interment with Military Honors will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Belmont Baptist Church Food Pantry.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
