Edward S. (Sam) Clark Jr., longtime resident of Salem, tragically passed away July 4, 2013. Sam was born on July 2, 1959 to Jean Clark Elliott of Salem and Edward S. Clark. Sam was preceded in death by his father. As a Salem native, Sam was proud to be associated with Carolina League Baseball for over 20 years, working for the Pirates, Red Birds and Buccaneers Baseball. He not only loved his baseball family, he loved his community and was a member of the Penguin Club. He was a 1977 graduate of Salem High School and attended Virginia Western Community College.
Sam was a loving son to his mother Jean Clark Elliott; a loyal brother to Eric Clark and sister-in-law Kaithe Crotty-Clark; sister, Angela and husband Derek Rock. He loved and enjoyed his nieces and nephews, Chris, Stephen and Michaela Clark, Jonathan Hallahan and Danielle Rock, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Sam also adored his best buddies "Jasper" and "Jocko" who were with him till the end. Sam with always be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and quirky antics.
Please join the family for a funeral service at noon on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Oakey's South Chapel. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park.The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. The family would like to thank the City of Salem Police, Fire, Rescue and Swift Water Team for all their efforts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to City of Salem Fire and Rescue.
