Fannie Carter (Polly) Richards, 79, of Thaxton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2013. She was born in Bedford, daughter of the late Ernest and Pearl McDaniel Gross. Her first husband, James E. Carter; her second husband, Michael Richards; son, James E. Carter Jr.; son-in-law, Gary Harlow; sister, Ernestine Hartman; and brothers, Eugene Gross and Carl Gross, have also preceded her in death.
Her life was devoted to being a homemaker, and a loving wife, mother and friend. Her world was centered on her four children.
She is survived by her three daughters, American Jane Harlow, of Roanoke, Elizabeth Howell and husband, Phillip, of Salem, and Loretta Carter Lucas and husband, Jesse, of Bedford; daughter-in-law, Teresa Carter; granddaughter, Kayla Phillip and husband, Shane; great-grandson, Curtis Edward Phillip; lifelong friend, Vernon Adams; and special friend and caregiver, Renita Cole.
The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Vernon Adams and Renita Cole, for their loving care.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Sellars will officiate and interment will follow at Montvale Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior 'o service time at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. www.Oakeys.com
