George D. (Dan) Allen, 93, of Salem, went home to be with his beloved daughter, Patricia Gayle Hale, and his family Saturday, May 4, 2013. Mr. Allen served proudly in the United States Army during World War II
and during this time was a P.O.W. He worked for VPI Electrical, and retired from the Kroger Distribution Warehouse after 22 years of service. After retiring, his hobby of fixing lawn mowers, chain saws, or anything with a small motor became his full time passion.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 73 years, Lillian A. Allen; four children, Norman Allen and wife, Carla, of Florida, Beverly Brooks, of Floyd, Georgia Allen, of Williamsburg, Danetta Allen, of Salem; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a dear friend, Thomas Campbell of Salem.

A graveside service celebrating Mr. Allen's life will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Loraine Taylor officiating.
