Gladys Rachel Ragsdale White, 92, of Roanoke, slept into heavenly peace Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Friendship Retirement Community, where she had been a resident since 2008. She was born May 4, 1921, in Blue Ridge to the late Matthew Silas and Florence Ragsdale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. (Bugeye) White; sons, James A. Jr. (Squealler) and John W. (John Willie); sister, Elizabeth (Pony) Prease; and niece, Gloria Jones. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, B. Curtis White (Sylvia), of Salem; daughter, June E. Landers (Rick), of Roanoke; granddaughters, Rita, Stephanie and Gretchen; great- grandchildren, Matthew, Bradley, Dwight, Darryl Jr. and Jasmine, all of North Carolina; lifelong cousin, Doretha (Dora) Harris; many cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends. She also leaves behind two special roommates at Friendship, Mrs. Vieva Hall and Mrs. Naomi Davidson, as well as the residents of 2 North.
The family would like to thank the doctors who attended to her during her illness and the staff at Friendship for their kindness, support and care.
Complying with her wishes visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, and a Celebration of her Life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Interment will be in the Saunders Family Cemetery, Blue Ridge. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com
