Jack Steven (Steve) Proffitt, 51, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013. Steve graduated from Northside High School in 1979. He was an avid music lover who enjoyed playing his guitar and cherished every visit with his family and friends. Those who knew Steve drew inspiration from the way he always put the needs of others above his own. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cherie Deyerle. Surviving are his parents, James and Nancy Proffitt; brothers, Lt. Col. Scott Proffitt and wife, Cora, of Lincoln, Calif. and Mike Deyerle, of Roanoke; nephews, Casey Motley and wife, Angela, Aaron Deyerle and wife Tanya, Paul Deyerle, Cameron, Caden and Derek Proffitt; niece, Mandi Deyerle McDonough and husband, Joshua; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Cedar Lawn Burial Park. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church 4515 Delray Street with the Rev. Robert T. Copenhaver officiating.
