John Freeman Shanahan, 81, of New Castle, born August 11, 1931, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013. He was born in Bossivain, and then moved to Mud Fork, "over on the mountain, he called it". Dad served in the Korean War
. He married the prettiest woman in all Craig County, Allie Sarver in 1953. Later in life dad and his brother J.P. Shanahan spent many days camping on his favorite place in the entire world, the farm on Mud Fork. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura Shanahan; his wife, Allie Shanahan; brothers, Mitch, Don, Bill and J.P. Shanahan; and sisters, Alma Preston, Eula Presley, and Edna Ball Hurst. He is survived by daughter, Pat Tyndall and husband, Greg, Craig County; son, Freeman Shanahan, Craig County; and a sister, Joyce Moore, Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Ruth Shanahan, Kernsville, N.C.; plus many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Paitsel Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Kesler officiating. Interment will follow at Ross Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013.
