Lindsey Peters Sink, 90, of Roanoke, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehab Center. Lindsey was born on February 24, 1923, in Franklin County, Va., the son and fifth child of Walter Douglas Sink and Maude Peters Sink. He graduated from Jefferson High School and received associate degrees from Danville Tech and Temple University. A veteran of World War II
, he served in the Army
signal corps in Hawaii.
He had a long and productive career spanning 42 years with C & P Telephone Company spending most of those years in Richmond, Va. In Richmond he was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also volunteered in repair of "talking books" for the deaf and in service to St. Mary's Hospital. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially beach trips. After retirement he returned to his beloved Roanoke and became a member of Raleigh Court Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Emma Alean Wertz Sink; two sons and spouses, Larry Douglas (Myoung Kim), and Bryan Lindsey (Mary Ann); and grandchildren, Lindsey (spouse, Ron Dasher) and Taylor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherrie Beth Sink; and siblings, Hilda Johnson, Rachel Harveycutter, Sherman "Rocky" Sink, and Walter "Red" Sink.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Elmo McLaurin officiating. The family will be receiving friends immediately following the service.
