Nancy Claire Snyder Johnson died on Tuesday, July, 23 2013. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Salem College in Winston- Salem, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Helen G. Snyder and Clair S. Snyder. A lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, active member of the Episcopal Church Women, and as a Vestry member. She was a member of the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley and other community organizations.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Harry G. Johnson Jr.; son, William W. (Bill) Johnson and wife, Ann Jones Johnson; daughters, Ellen J. Massey and husband, Michael L. Massey, and Ann Claire Shepherd and husband, Joel Shepherd. Her grandchildren are David Candler, John Candler, Bill Candler, Cameron Johnson, Claire Johnson, Sarah Shepherd and Mary Gin Shepherd, Jennifer Massey and Michael Massey Jr. Great-grandchildren include Jack Candler, Kate Candler, Haley Candler, Jane Candler, and Will Candler. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Marilyn Johnson Williams and husband, Cranston Williams Jr., and their children, Reade Williams and Sally Williams.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013, with the Reverend J. Wesley Smith officiating. Inurnment will be private at the Church Columbarium.
