Robert Marion (Bob) Stickley III, 79, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2013 after having just had pancreatic cancer surgery. He was also a 65 year survivor of Crohn's disease. Bob was born on March 6, 1934, to the late Robert Marion Stickley Jr. and Frances Mildred Williams Stickley. Bob attended UVA and retired from SFCS Architectural firm after over 35 years. He designed Bethel Baptist Church, Grandin Court Baptist Church, Northside High School and at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, the first open heart surgery and recovery departments, all NICU, ICU, CCU, dialysis units, nurseries as well as extensive remodeling at Roanoke Memorial. He was a charter member of the Ostomy Society of Roanoke and was league secretary for 23 years of the Commercial Bowling League at Viking Lanes and a prior member of the Roanoke Bowling Association Board of Directors. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Bob Meador; and a stepnephew, Robby Meador. He is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Gail Howlett Stickley; a stepson, David Thomason and his sons, Michael and Christopher; and a stepdaughter and her family, Dawn Thomason Kneisler, husband, John and her children, Amanda Renick, Kaitlin and Matthew Kneisler; sister-in-law, Lynda Howlett Meador and her family, Michele Meador and her daughter, Mikayla, and Ryan Meador and his children, Madison, Mia and Mason.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday. July 23, 2013, at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue by the Rev. Donna Hopkins Britt of Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday before the service.
