Robert Nelson Pagans, of Vinton, passed to his Heavenly home January 17, 2013 after a lengthy struggle with leukemia and lymphoma. He was retired from General Electric with 33 years service and a veteran of the United States Navy
, serving during the Korean Conflict
. He was a faithful member of Chamblissburg Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nora Pagans; grandson, Kevin Nicholas Pagans; brothers, Walter, Henry and Freddie; and sisters, Clara Simmons, Ruth Morgan, and Shirley Dobson.
Survivors are his devoted wife of 55 years, Helen Nimmo Pagans; sons and their wives, Barry and Jennifer Pagans, of Hampstead, N.C. and Jeff and Lisa Pagans, of Vinton; and five precious grandchildren, Brenna, Allison, Lauren, Joshua, and Lydia. He is also survived by brother, Luther (Lois) Pagans, of Hardy, sisters, Helen Hannabass, of Roanoke, Estelle Marshbanks, of Charlotte, N.C., Louise (Ricky) Hall, of Hardy, and Betty (Herman) Plybon, of Georgia, sister-in-law, Jueleen Holdren, of Hardy, brother-in-law, Troy Dobson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Joel Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
