Harry Jacob Berger

Harry Jacob Berger, 87, of Union Hall, died on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, in a Roanoke hospital. He was known to the locals as "Mayor" of Union Hall and was retired from J.P. Stevens Company in Rocky Mount. Mr. Berger was born on November 23, 1923, a son of the late Samuel Jacob and Vergie Allman Berger and was also preceded in death by his wife, Cora Lee Dudley Berger; his brother, Crispen David (Chip) Berger; and brothers-in-law, Fred Altice and Douglas Altice. He is survived by his son, Harry Berger Jr. (Wanda); granddaughters, Andrea Berger and friend, Dennis Lynch, and Stephanie Berger; great- granddaughters, Emileigh Berger, Alexis Surber and Molleigh Berger; and sisters, Elizabeth B. Altice, Nancy B. Altice and Brenda Sue Berger. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 with the Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the Berger Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be donated in memory of Harry Berger to the Glade Hill Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 82, Glade Hill, VA 24092. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 18, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
