Dale Bowman Obituary

Dale Eldon Bowman, 76, of Indian Valley, Va., passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010. Born the son of Wilbur and Doris Bowman he worked on the family farm in Huntington, Ind. He graduated from Rock Creek High School 1952, Huntington, Ind., Purdue University with a Bachelor Degree in 1960, Washington State University with a Masters Degree 1962, Bridgewater College Theology in 1977 and EMT Training in 2002 in Floyd, Va. He served his country in the Army and was on the Pistol Team. He was a science teacher at Huntington North High School and previous owner of Frazanda Golf Course both in Huntington, Ind. Dale became a minister in 1977 serving the following churches: Lagro Presbyterian, in Lagro, Ind., Leake's Chapel Church of the Brethren, in Stanley, Va., Tire Hill Church of the Brethren, in Tire Hill, Pa., Covington Church of the Brethren, in Covington, Ohio, Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, in Copper Hill, Va., Duncan's Chapel Church of the Brethren, in Floyd County, Va., Buffalo Mt. Presbyterian, in Floyd County, Va., Indian Valley Presbyterian, in Floyd County, Va., and Parkway Church of the Brethren, in Floyd County. He was an active member of Floyd County Rescue Squad, receiving many awards for his service. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Miller Bowman, of Indian Valley, Va.; sister, Evelyn (Ernie) Maxwell, of Wapakoneta, Ohio; children, Mark Bowman, of Richmond, Va., Brenda (Rodger) Brewer, of Stoystown, Pa., Jeannie (Ron) Stahl, of Lancaster, Pa., and Matt (Lorraine) Bowman, of St. Paris, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Justin and Jessie Stahl, Lee, Lauren and Lynne Brewer, and Shane and Bryce Bowman. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Hal Sonafrank officiating. Interment will follow in Capt. George Quesenberry Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Floyd County Rescue Squad or Church World ServicesDisaster Relief. Karen & Family,
I have cried more and deeper over this, than over my own parents. I absolutely adore you two! The Word says, Precious in the Lord's sight is the death of his saints (Psalm 116:15)--and while we thank Him for His victory over death, we have to cry out to Him that Dale's passing leaves a HOLE in our hearts, until we can all meet again.

I am not able to attend the funeral, much to my dismay and hurt. But my heart and soul are with you --and have been with you, during this entire time. My prayers will continue for the family.

Karen, in the weeks to come, I hope to get together with you, we'll go eat and cry on each other's shoulder, and comfort each other with the Word.

I love you sooooooo much. More than you probably know. I'll call soon.

Karen and Family:

I was so deeply saddened to hear of Dale's passing. I have fond memories of you two when Dale was pastoring Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. I loved his sense of humor and ready smile. I am so grateful of Dale's encouragement to take my Emmaus Walk. It was truly a blessing. I pray God will see you and your family through the days ahead. I know you will miss him terribly and Floyd County will miss a dedicated, caring man.

Karen,I am so sad about Dale,The last time I saw him he was visiting
Mama,Belva Dalton,when he started to leave he said lets pray and at the end of the pray he said" shaving a hair cut two bits"and I have laughed so much about that.He was a dear man and will truly be missed by our family.But he is walking on streets of gold today.
