Virginia Atkins Obituary

Virginia Yopp Price Atkins, 89, of Blacksburg, Va., formerly of Martinsville, Va., died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Kroontje Health Care Center. She was born in Floyd Co., Va. to the late Benjamin and Ida Spangler Yopp. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Jackson Price; twin brother, Brice Yopp; and sister, Ruby Yopp Weeks. Virginia was a faithful and loyal member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church where she also served as treasurer for 20 years. She volunteered at the adult day care center for many years. She served as Girl Scout Leader at Wesley in the 1960's. She could be counted on to participate in projects at church making many Christmons, decorating for weddings and serving on the bereavement committee. She operated in-home child care for many years in Martinsville and was known as "Pricie" to the children she kept. Virginia will be missed by many who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Grover W. Atkins, of Blacksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Dare and Paige Bishop, of Hartfield, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Edward and Mary Fugate Price, of Wake Forrest, N.C.; grandchildren, Russell Bishop and wife, Carolyn Cios Bishop, of Powhatan, Va., Jennifer Surowitz and husband, Dr. Joshua Surowitz, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Andrew Price, of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Ralph Yopp, of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 24, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Gilbert officiating. Graveside will follow Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Martinsville, Va. or Slussers Chapel Church of God, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service Monday at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.

Virginia was my grandmother and I loved her very much. I know she is in a better place now but I will miss her and always remember how good she was to me.

Virginia was one of my favorite cousins, years ago when iwas a teenager, she woujd wash her sweaters in too hot water and they
would shrink and i got them!!!! sorry I can't be there, but i live in
Frisco, Tx. now. My love and sympathy to all.
