James Campbell Obituary

James Ivan (Jim) Campbell, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010, after stubbornly and courageously fighting a respiratory illness for many years. Jim was born on August 5, 1939, in Huntington, W.Va. He was the only son of Chester Harvey and Freda Eileen (Shaffer) Campbell. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1964. He then attended and graduated from his beloved Marshall University in 1967, and remained an enthusiastic fan and supporter for the remainder of this life. He started his career in banking with First National Exchange Bank in 1968. He remained with the bank until 1993, rising to the position of Vice President and head of the Tax Department for Dominion Trust Company. He joined the accounting firm of Scearce & Crabbs in 1993 where he was presently employed. In his spare time, Jim was an avid bowler, winning many trophies both locally and in surrounding areas. He was an unassuming kind, generous and compassionate man who was always ready to assist those in need with tax advice and preparation. Although Jim had no close relatives, he will be fondly remembered by his many friends and business associates. In his final illness he was especially gratified by numerous cards and visits. Jim would wish to express his gratitude to the technical, nursing and therapy staff at Springtree Health and Rehabilitation Center for their professional and compassionate care. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.

Though I knew Jim (Mr. C) for only a few years and didn't get to see him very often (only during tax season), I enjoyed the fact that he was kind and gruffly funny, and never failed to help when called upon. He will surely be missed.
