Robert McGinnis Obituary

Robert J. McGinnis was surrounded by his loving family as he went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 14, 2010. Born July 18, 1927, he served his country during World War II, stationed in Guam with the United States Navy. He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad after 44 years of service, having worked his way from laborer at the age of 16 to the position of Material Manager, a testament to his fair nature, people skills, and work ethic. Bob's faith and his family were the two single most important things in his life. He was always happiest spending time with his family, though he also followed baseball closely, enjoyed a good game of golf, and maintained a 180-plus bowling average into his late 60's. All who knew him experienced the tremendous grace and dignity with which he approached the debilitations of macular degeneration, Parkinson's disease, and COPD in his later years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Jaclyn; a son, Sean McGinnis and wife, Amy; a daughter, Shannon Wilson and husband, Daniel; grandchildren, Megan and Kira McGinnis, Brent and Brandon Prather, and Danielle Wilson; four brothers, Joseph (Jackie), Dennis (Kathy), John, Tim; and sisters, Katherine Hunziker (Dan) and Catherine Prescott (Jim); and a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth Nicolin. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Ethel McGinnis; sisters, Delores Lynch, Edith Prokop, and Janet Hanson; and brother, Michael McGinnis. A celebration of his life will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr. Joseph Lehman officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Lady of Nazareth, Good Samaritan Hospice, or charity of choice. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-389-3131.
