William A. Secrist

William A. (Al) Secrist, 86, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2010. He was born on April 15, 1924, in Roanoke, Va. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn Spangler Secrist; parents, W.W. and Sadie Secrist; brothers, Richard and Clarence Secrist; and sister, Helen Secrist Caves. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Secrist; brother, Doug Secrist; sister, Ailene Ridgeway; and numerous nieces and nephews, stepchildren and stepgrandchildren. Al served his country in the Army during World War II. He retired from Eli Lilly. Until his illness, he was an active member of Grandin Court Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Disciples Sunday School Class. He enjoyed playing golf as well as bowling. A very special thank you to the staff at the Loyalton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grandin Court Baptist Church or to your favorite charity. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010, at Grandin Court Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Meadows and the Rev. Charles Krause officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
