Johnny Gordon CRAIGHEAD

Johnny Gordon Craighead, 72, of Roanoke County, went to be with his Lord on Thursday morning, September 6, 2012, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was at home surrounded by his family. Johnny was employed by Blue Ridge Transfer for 27 years and retired from Old Dominion Truck Leasing with 10 years service. He was a faithful member of Coopers Cove Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Everette I. and Dorothy Angell Craighead; and his sister, Betty J. Craighead.
Surviving are his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Charlotte Faye Maxey Craighead; his daughter, Debra C. Spangler, of Roanoke; his twin grandchildren, Robert (Robbie) Spangler Jr. and wife, Jessie and her daughter, Madison, of Clifton Forge, and Erica D. Spangler, of Roanoke; his sister, Shirley Wade, of Roanoke; his brothers, Everette Craighead Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Salem, and Carlton Craighead and wife, Linda, of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Mary Mills, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Gladys Cronise, of Roanoke, and Garnet Dale and husband, Walter, of Henrico, Va.; brothers-in-law, Charles Maxey, of Wirtz, Kenneth Maxey, of Hardy, and Wesley Shilling, of Boones Mill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Steeple Fund at Coopers Cove Baptist Church or Good Samaritan Hospice in Johnny's memory. The family would like to give special thanks, to Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Salem, Dr. Paul Richards and the entire staff for their dedicated and loving care to Johnny during his illness.
A Funeral Service will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at noon on Monday, September 10, 2012, with Pastors Darrell Naff and Kyle Dooley officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
