Joan Knode Obituary

Joan Gregory Knode, 63, of Pulaski, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, with her children by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie E. Gregory and Agnes H. Gregory. Born on July 4, 1947, she was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church and Independent Insurance Agent for over 37 years. Her tenacity and compassion led her to several occupations and volunteer organizations. In 1991 she founded Knode & Associates Insurance Services; she was the first female president of the Pulaski Kiwanis Club; represented Pulaski County on the board of directors for New River Community Services; and served as Board Chair. At age 61 she received her associate degree in paralegal studies from New River Community College. Her sincerity was genuine, her soul complicated and deep. She never met a stranger and that is what made her complete. She is survived by her children, Janet Rena Knode and John Duane Knode; her brother, John Gregory and wife, Beth; her sister, Janet Jackson and husband, Dennis; along with many cherished nieces and nephews, cousins, colleagues, neighbors and friends. The family would like to thank everyone who helped give care and support to her this past year. Special thanks to the hospice nurses with Southern Care and Beulah House. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 29, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m. and a Celebration of her Life will be held 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at the First Christian Church, 524 North Jefferson Avenue, Pulaski. In lieu of flowers, an account to help with final expenses has been established at SunTrust Bank. Donations can also be made to The Beulah House in Dublin. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seaglefuneralhome.com Arrangements by Seagle Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va., 540-980-1700.

I'll certainly never forget the few fun days on "Tiger Cruise" in 2000 that I spent with Joan. She was so determined to keep up with me. But then, she would cry "Uncle" and have the nerve to tell me that she had to rest for a minute. The nerve!!!!! She will be missed. Take care sweetie!

Love,
Patty :)

I have known Joan since we were in HS together. I was in her wedding and on our graduation night she and your Dad were helping me and my first husband Steve paint our first apartment before we got married. Lots of good memories of your Mom who was a very special person. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Alice Wheeling Jenkins

It with sadness I learned of Joan's death. Duane and Rena, your mother spoke of both of you often and with much pride. I considered her a good friend over the years. We worked on many community projects. Joan was liked and respected by all who knew her. She will be missed by the community for her sincere desire to make Pulaski County a better place.
