Alan Backer Obituary

Alan Wayne Backer, 51, of Couer d'Alene, Idaho, passed away on July 8, 2010. Born on April 11, 1959, in Redfield, S.D., he was the son of Pauline Backer and the late Ralph Backer. He is survived by his mother, Pauline Backer; his wife of 13 years, Connie Urban Backer; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews. While living in Roanoke, Alan was employed by General Electric, then by Lewis Gale Hospital Emergency Department, while going to college full time to obtain his Registered Nurse certification. After achieving his RN, Alan and his wife relocated to Couer d'Alene, Idaho, to build their dream home and continue his nursing career at Kootenai Medical Center. During his years in Roanoke, Alan was involved with local country and western dance clubs, as well as being a member of Salem Volunteer Rescue Squad and GE's on-site Rescue Squad. Alan's generosity and selfless nature easily made him a friend to all and loved by many. At Alan's quest, in lieu of a memorial service, a celebration of life gathering will be held at the Backer residence on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. Correspondence with Alan's family may be sent to 4844 South Wolf Lodge Terrace, Couer d'Alene, Idaho 83815. The Backer family wishes to send a very special thanks to Alan's co-workers and friends at Kootenai Medical Center and to the staff of Hospice of North Idaho for everything that was done on Alan's behalf.
