Ann Cooper Miller, 87, lived in Roanoke for the last 64 years, and went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2012, where she was greeted by her parents, Nettie and H. F. Cooper; her sisters, Olive Hurt and Julia Arrington; and her stepgrandson, John Little. Ann Cooper Miller was born in Splashdam to H.F and Nettie Cooper on May, 11, 1925. She graduated from Haysi High School in Haysi in 1944, and then attended Madison College in Harrisonburg until 1948. Following college, she worked for Appalachian Power, and was actively involved in the Kappa Chi Sorority. Ann married the love of her life, Warren M Miller on December 30, 1950, and they have two children, her son, Marshall and daughter, Sharon. After her children were born, Ann devoted all her time and talents to her family for the next 60 years. She enjoyed reading, birds, flowers, music, taking family photos, and especially spending time with her grandchildren plus other family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Warren M Miller, who lived with her at Brandon Oaks, her son, W. Marshall Miller II, of Newport News, her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Miller Nickerson and John Nickerson of Williamsburg, her granddaughters, Rebekah Nickerson Chappell and husband, Nick Chappell, of Houston, Texas, Sarah Nickerson, of Virginia Beach, and Leah Nickerson, of Williamsburg. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, Sue Arrington, of Bristol, Tenn., Martha Farmer, of Bristol, Va., Elizabeth Fowler, of Saint Simon, Ga.; Patricia Bacon, of Jonesboro, Tenn., and Nelson Hurt, of Chatham, N.J.; along with her longtime friend, Ethel Burton, of Richmond. Funeral service will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 318 Church Ave. SW at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, with the Reverend K. David Skole of Christ Evangelical Lutheran officiating. A period of fellowship with the family will follow the service at the Chapel. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, with a celebration of her life to follow at their apartment at Brandon Oaks. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2011 Brandon Ave., Roanoke, VA 24015. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Generation Solutions, Good Samaritan Hospice, and the Reverend K. David Skole, plus family and friends who attended and cared for Ann.
