Benjamin Harrison Hale Jr., 90, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. "Hicky," as he was always known, was the oldest son of Blanche Francis Hale and B. Harrison Hale Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, M. Gwendolyn Hale and B. Frances Hale; brothers, T. Henry Hale Sr. and David L. Hale; and grandson, Devin O. Hilton. Harrison retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation where he first worked on the dining cars and then retired as a clerk in the Law Department. He also owned and operated a catering business. Harrison was a member of Loudon Avenue Christian Church where he served with the Christian Men's Fellowship. He was a founder of the Altruist Club and the Friends of the Roanoke Symphony.

Harrison is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Hylton Hale; three daughters, the Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Hale, Jewell C. Hale and Benecia (Clarence) Hale-Hilton; and one son, Benjamin (Kim) Hale III. He also leaves four grandchildren, Ethan and Erin Hilton, and Gyasi and Jelani Hale; two sisters, Serena Reeves and Barbara Fultz; one god daughter, Janie T. Ollie; and his caregiver, Carlton Simpson.
A Memorial Service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Loudon Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. William L. Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Loudon Avenue Christian Church, Capital Campaign Fund.
