Bernard Morrison Sorrells, 84, widower of Josephine (Miley) Sorrells, formerly of 1203 Poplar Hill Road in Lexington, Va., and 500 C Street Staunton, Va., passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Johnnie Moore, 126 Shawn Circle, in Staunton with whom he had made his home. Mr. Sorrells was born on June 5, 1925, in Rockbridge County, Va., a son of the late James Thomas and Cora Lee (Irvine) Sorrells. Bernard was a member of Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church and prior to his retiring, he was employed as an inspector for Reeves Brothers Company in Buena Vista. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Sorrells was preceded in death by a daughter, Josephine Marie (Sorrells) Higgins; a son, Donnie Bernard Sorrells; six brothers, James, Clarence, Albert, Winfred, Harold and Leonard Sorrells; and a sister, Mrs. Beatrice (Sorrells) Zollman. Mr. Sorrells is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Anita (Sorrells) Moore and her husband, Johnnie, of Staunton; a daughter-in-law, Lesley S. Sorrells; and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy S. Armstrong, both of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Milton Riley, Keith Zimmerman, Rebecca Chittum, Catherine Higgins, Philip Sorrells, Kevin Moore and Tanya Moore; eight greatgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends also survive. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 22, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010, in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens by Hospice of the Piedmont's Chaplain, Eva Marie Ireland.
