Dennis Richardson Obituary

Dennis Lee Richardson, of Blue Ridge, Va., beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, entered into rest April 8, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 9, 1948, he was 61 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion D. (Buggenhagen) and Alfred J. Richardson; and his grandson, Chandler Toman Simpson. Dennis is survived by his wife of 27 years, Deanna C. (Thacker) Richardson; and his best friend, Marley. They resided in Blue Ridge, Va. Dennis is also survived by brothers, Thomas (Diane), of Akron, N.Y., and Brian (Nancy) Richardson, of Penn Yann, N.Y.; his children, Christopher Richardson, of Akron, N.Y., Melissa (Bob) Meyer, of Alden, N.Y., Selena (Todd) Lacks, of Hot Springs, Va., Jennifer (Bryan) Simpson, of Clifton Forge, Va.; and grandchildren, Bobby, Benjamin, Connor, Olivia, Whitney, Andrew and Tanner. Also included are many cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Dennis was a hardworking, dedicated truck driver for over 35 years. An avid collector of Naval Battleship memorabilia and a benchrest shooter. Dennis also served as a volunteer for the Akron Fire Company when he resided in Akron, N.Y. As a lifelong member of the NRA, his passion was exemplified through his actions.

Dennis touched so many lives with his kind, compassionate and caring being. He was a gentle man who adored his family and friendships like no other. Although he is not with us anymore, his smile and "Dennisisms" will be cherished forever by those whose lives he touched.

Special thanks from Dennis and his family to extraordinary people, Roy Neff, Phyllis Beckner, Lois Elliott, Sharon Elliot, Amedisys Hospice and Lewis Gayle Medical and Cancer Care Center. Without whose compassion and generosity would have made his final months of life unbearable. To all of you, we are eternally grateful.

No services will be held as Dennis's wish was for family and friends to honor those he loved privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice of Salem, Va., 1312 W. Main St., Salem, Va. 24153, or the League for Animal Protection, P.O. Box 561, Fincastle, Va. 24090.

Dear Dennis,
"Until we meet again .... Rest in Peace." We love You.

Dennis,
The anniversary of your death and our wedding anniversary has just passed. Your birthday is in 10 days. I can't express how much I miss you. I still love you and will until my dying day. You were my one true love. We had our good and bad times but we were always there for each other.
Your courage, compassion, sincerity, love and support through our married life and during your final struggle will never be forgotten.
I take good care of Marley and he misses you still. All I have to do is say "Dad" and his ears perk up.
I pray you are at peace and are waiting for me. I love you.

My condolences goes to Dennis's family. Dennis has started his new great life with God now. Dennis was a good friend of mine when he lived in Akron, We drove trucks for the same company. Although I haven't seen Dennis since he left Akron, I still think of the good and bad times of life that we shared together.
He did work on his tractor with his one good arm that most men couldn't do with two arms, and did a good job of it and he never complained.
